Marietta takes its trees seriously. In 2023 the city marked 39 straight years as a Tree City USA, and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park lies just north of town.
Pines add their own load. The Atlanta History Center says a pine in or around Atlanta is most likely a loblolly, and NC State Extension describes loblolly needles as 6 to 10 inches long, growing in bundles of three.
UGA Extension notes that evergreens such as pines shed their oldest needles in the fall, the same season most hardwoods drop their leaves. Wet needles and leaves knit into a mat that holds water back, often right over the downspout opening.
For most Marietta homes, two cleanings a year cover it: one in late fall, after the leaves and needles are mostly down, and one in spring. A lot with pines or big hardwoods over the roof may need a third visit.
