A maintenance visit is more than a cleaning. Beyond scooping out the troughs, the crew should flush each downspout and make sure it drains freely at the bottom, including any that feed a pipe underground.
Then come the checks: hangers that have loosened, seams and corners with drip marks, low spots where water stands after a flush, and the fascia board behind the gutter for soft or stained wood.
At ground level, they should look at downspout extensions and splash blocks, since water dumped beside the foundation undoes the rest of the work. If you have guards, the visit should include clearing what sits on them and checking that they’re still fastened.
Ask for a short written note or photos after each visit. Small fixes such as resetting a hanger may be part of it, and larger repairs should come back as a separate quote you can approve or decline.
